How we give back
From the very beginning we had the mindset that business is more than profits. But it wasn't until we were faced with the interesting predicament of what to do with returned bedding that our "give back" campaigns really took off. We recognized we had the opportunity to do good by building a company culture dedicated to making a difference for animals in need.
From "volunteer time off" and monetary donations, to repurposing returned bedding into pet beds for local animal shelters, we are continuously finding ways to give back to our communities. Here's why we care...
By the numbers (courtesy of ASPCA)
- 6.5 million companions enter U.S. animal shelters every year
- Approximately 1.5 million animals were euthanized every year
- 3.2 million shelter animals are adopted every year
- 710,000 animals are returned to their owners
- Only 23% of dogs are obtained through animal shelters
Although a helping hand or donated goods go a long way to helping shelters, it's financial backing that keeps the lights on. That's why we back local animal shelters with annual monetary donations.
100% of these donations go directly to saving animals from crisis, and have helped to enact more than 1,000 state and federal laws, improved the animal welfare policies of hundreds of companies and impacted the lives of millions of animals in the process on a national scale.
Although rare, we were faced with the problem of what to do with returned bedding. Local homeless shelters and thrift stores didn't accept used bedding products and we didn't want to fill landfills with usable bedding. That's when it dawned on us that these returns could be used by local animal shelters.
Being placed in a shelter can be a nerve wracking experience for these animals. By repurposing the returned bedding into pet beds, we felt we can give these animals a little piece of home. Plus the Outlast® technology inside the bedding still works for our four legged friends to keep them comfortable while they wait for their forever homes.
Giving back has become part of the Slumber Cloud way of doing business. That's why we schedule paid working days for all of our employees to volunteer at local shelters throughout the year. With boots on the ground, we are able to see first hand the challenges facing these often underfunded operations. It allows us to look at the big picture and make more of an impact than a monetary donation.
One of the biggest learnings we have observed is how important volunteers are to the daily operations for these shelters. With that in mind, we challenge you to give back to your community. Take half day a year to volunteer at your local shelter, you'll be surprised at how much of an impact your time makes.
Want to join us in giving back? Offer your support by making a donation to animal shelters in need. 100% of these donations are passed on to the animal shelters to helping animals in need.
